-- Note - the earliest verified snowflakes were September 17 (in 1866). All other dates before September 20 in the table, I have not been able to find any secondary proof to corroborate the Archives.
Data notes:
1880 - Snow showers were reported by James Stewart, a Dominion meteorological observer in Winnipeg, on the 20th. St Andrews north of Winnipeg recorded measurable snowfall amounts. I have chosen to believe the report as a result, changing the first snowflakes date from Nov 12 to Oct 20 (I do not know if there was measurable snow based only on Stewart's reports). It was a chilly October, and it is rare to not have any kind of snow flurries in a cold October.
1882 - Light snow reported at 1:30pm Oct 28 at St John's College, found in the observer notes retrieved at the Library and Archives of Canada in Winnipeg.
1890 - Changed from Oct 31 to Oct 13. Snow was reported Oct 13 to 15th in newspapers (Wpg Free Press Oct 14 pg6) and by the observer at St John's College, who for some reason, did not report the trace amount. It is unclear if any accumulation occurred or not.
1903 - Oct 22, 1903 is no longer in this table because the observer notes from St John's College reported ''snowing'' at 7am on Oct 16, changing the first snowflake date.
1911 - Although the first snow report in the Archives was Oct 22, a few snowflakes fell in the evening of Oct 20. See Winnipeg Tribune article from Oct 21, 1923. Confirmed in the observer notes from St John's College.
1923 - The snow was recorded in the Archives only on Oct 25, but it actually began in the morning of Oct 24. See Winnipeg Tribune article from Oct 24, 1923.
1931 - The snow was recorded in the Archives only on Nov 19, but it actually began shortly after 11pm on the 18th. See Winnipeg Tribune article from Nov 19, 1931.
1945 - Due to 12z-12z climate day, the snow was recorded Sep 19 but it actually fell on Sep 20 during the early morning. See Winnipeg Tribune article from Sep 20 1945.
1975 - Ice pellets fell, not snow. The first snowflakes were Oct 14. I may remove from this table above in the future.
1991 - Only GS (small hail or snow pellets) was reported, not SN (snow). Unsure if the observer meant small hail or snow pellets.
2023 - Very light snow at the Airport and vicinity early morning Oct 24 (I have video evidence to corroborate the observer). Weatherlogics reported no snow at their site
